Osama Bin Laden

His life isn’t marked because of his role in the Cold War, more because of the terrorists attack of 9/11. He was born March 10 1957 in Saudi Arabia. He was raised as a Wahabbi Muslim; he was a very religious man.

He was a former and organizer of the organization , “Al Qaeda”, but his role in the Cold War, starts with the Soviet invasion to Afghanistan; another stage of the Cold War, as the United States will fought also in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union; there the CIA will hire Bin Laden to fought and train with the U.S. army to defeat the Soviet and took control from Afghanistan again.

It was November 1986 when the political scandal during President Reagan presidency over an arms-for-hostages deal with the Iranian Republic and the funding of the Nicaraguan group: Contras.

The original plan was too improve the United States relationship with the Iranian Islamic republic but Israel ship weapons to a group of Iranians , when received they promised to free six American hostages held by the group Hezbolah who were allied with the Islamic Revolution

The plan deteriorated as there were modifications in the plan as the money went to fund the anti- Sandinista or Contras.

On March 1987, Reagan accepted everything thought he told some things he was unaware of and that he mistake to destroy the Iranian relations. There were investigations by the United States Congress, it everything ended as president George H.W. Bush got to the end, he was vice-president. 

1973 Chilean Coup D'Eat

1973 Chilean Coupe D’Etat

One of the most important landmark of Chile’s History. It everything began as President Salvador Allende was elected in 1970 president. When Allende became President, Chile started to have economic problems, and then political as the United States saw an inminent Marxist goberment in Chile and the Richard Nixon goberment supported the revolutionary and military, Augusto Pinochet.

Pinochet assumed power afters desposing Allende, who died in the coup, in strange situations, Pinochet established a military government and ruled until 1990.

It began September 11, 1973 as the Naavy captured Valparaiso and President Allende went to the Presidential Palace. An hour later, the TV and radio stations were closed and bombed in Santiago. President Allende tried to reach the military leaders though they did not answered him. Allende trusted on Pinochet’s loyalty.

Two hours later, the country was in control to the military except Santiago and Allende refusing to resign. General Leigh ordered to bombe the Presidential Palace and Pinochet ordered and assault La Moneda and finally killing Allende.

The worst act was the murdering of thousands of leftists and suspected leftists, in the first months after the U.S. coup d’etat. 

Guatemalean Coup D'Etat

The 1954 coup d'etat that occuried in Guatemala, as Jacobo Armenz Guzman was elected democratically in Guatemela, but according to the United States Central Intelligence Agency the elected president Armenz was communist. According to the information Guatemala would become a communist country and “a beach from the Soviet in America” according to Allen Dulles. And as the United States could not accept to have a communist “neighbor” as Guatemala is bordered by Mexico, and is too close to the United States they decided to make a coup d'etat. Armenz started to make laws to impair the United States multinational United Fruit Company.

Then the 18^th June of 1953 the United States started the plan to arm and train to take the country into a "Liberation Army" of about 400 rebels under the command of the exiled Guatemalan army officer Coronel Carlos Castillo Armas in co-ordination with a complex plot about taking documents of the PBHISTORY operation to prove Armenz a communist puppet. 

Domino Theory/ Ho Chi Minh

He was born in 1890, May 19^th. Born in his mother village, he started in his youngness to read the Marx- Lenin ideas and started to rebel to the French government as Vietnam as the French Indochina. But Ho Chi Minh role in this Cold War, started as he becamed the President of Democratic Republic of Vietnam, or North Vietnam, or the communist Vietnam. He defeated the French Union in 1954. He ruled Vietnam in the first years of the war, and then the capital city of South Vietnam was called “Ho Chi Minh City”. 

Domino Theory 

The Domino Theory, as the dominoes fall just because ONE fall, there was this theory that stated that if an Asian country failed into communism, all the  Asian countries, finally would fall into it. First China, the Asian giant, then the neighbor: Korea. Then Vietnam. And as Laos and Cambodia started to fall, it stopped as the Cold War began to end; Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, and India never fall.

Kim II Sung

He was born April 15, 1912. Kim fought in the Chinese Revolution, but his role in the Cold War, and Korea starts as a communist politician, he led North Korea form 1948 to his death in 1994. He was Prime Minister and President from 1972. He changed his beelivings from Marxist to his own communist ideas. Following his death, his birthday and death are holidays in Korea. He is succeded by his son Kim Jong- il, and the country referes to him as the “Great Leader”.

The Cuban Missile Crisis, it was a confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union in October 1962 during the Cold War, it is named in different places, in Russia “The Caribbean Crisis” , in Cuba, “The October Crisis” and in the U.S. “Cuban Missile Crisis”.

Cuba and the USSR, decided to place nuclear missiles in Cuba, aiming Florida, the U.S. noticed an decided to get them removal, this moment was the closest point of becoming the Cold War to a Nuclear War.

The U.S. feared communism, and Cuba had opened to Russia, also it defy the Monroe Doctrine, as European Powers could not get involved in America.

President Kennedy engaged Operation Mongoose, operations against Cuba, as the economic embargo till now. 

The problem continued as Curtis LeMay, an Air Force General, presented President Kennedy a bombing in September and there was a military movement in the Guantanamo Naval Base. Then Cuba had the evidence that U.S. pretended the invasion, then U.S. announced a military exercise in the Caribbean.

Then Castro and Khrushchev agreed to place again missiles in Cuba, and Khrushchev feeling the U.S. invasion imminent and that loosing Cuba would be a catastrophic to communism
